For now, Nicomachean Exhortations will be on hiatus. The events unfolding in the Holy Land have left me reflecting and evaluating what my unique contribution to the world can be. To be honest, I don’t think it’s this. And while writing these posts has been incredibly rewarding for myself, I feel my heart pulling for something different.
I am an Orthodox Jew, of Egyptian and Iranian descent, grown in New Jersey, and currently in Israel. I have a spacious openness to opposing and threatening world views, and what I hope is a healthy groundedness in hard facts and reality. I am a religious pluralist, and a lover of plurality in general. I also love truth- hence I love the plurality of possibly true and good ways of living, and would like to see the worse ways improved. I am unable to decouple beauty, truth and morality.
In other words, I am a hopeful realist, in a world full of cynicists or blinded idealists. I am a progressive and liberal thinker deeply rooted and well educated in the culture and values of my tradition. This makes me an aberration of sorts.
And so- my current project can be found here. I do not know how commonly I’ll post. Things here will be mainly English, with Hebrew (and hopefully one day Arabic) additions.
They will have a more political angle, but one that is in line with the Prophets of Israel, not with team read or team blue.
You can see it here.
Blessings to all
PS- if anybody feels called to continue working on the Exhortations, contact me, and I can give you some guidance to do so. (No philosophical background necessary)
